Stewardship. How are we to understand it?

Lutherans don't have a long and glorious history in understanding stewardship and money. At the time of the Reformation, the churches were primarily funded through taxes and the government. By the time Lutherans come to the United States in the nineteenth century, we had hundreds of years of relying on the government to pay for our buildings and pastors. It's no wonder we are still playing catchup!
